Ancient Manuals to the Afterlife

Two of the world’s most important spiritual texts from the past are The Egyptian Book of the Dead and The Tibetan Book of the Dead. These books, written in two completely different parts of the world, describe in detail the process of transcendence from this plane into the next and offer valuable advice for anyone on a spiritual journey. The Tibetan scriptures were written in the 18th century, while the Egyptian texts were written over 4000 years ago and may be the oldest spiritual scripture in existence. Both offer very similar accounts of people with near-death experiences.

The Egyptian Book of the Dead was part of a tradition of funerary texts which were painted onto objects, not papyrus. The texts consist of a number of magic spells intended to assist a dead person’s journey through the Duat, or underworld, and into the afterlife.

Similarly, The Tibetan Book of the Dead was intended as a tool to attain psychological freedom and to serve as a map for the journey one faces into the afterlife. Some believe it is filled with universal wisdom that can be attained by all who read it.

  1. Certainly the two most important and most interesting spiritual texts i’ve come across. For ages, these texts have been deliberately marginalised by monotheism and the peoples of the book who don’t welcome alternative thinking or point of view.

Thank You, David, for an important sharing.

    My best to You

  2. David,
Very interesting to hear about the parallels between the Tibetan Book of the Dead and near death experiences. It’s hard to deny, after reading or hearing people share personal NDE accounts, that those experiences represent today’s more accessible version of ancient wisdom contained in the manuscripts. It may be that NDEs are proof of human spiritual evolution because the wisdom derived is clearer coming from first hand experience, shared by people who’ve become profoundly moved/changed by their experience, and thus more easily understood.
    Thanks for the excellent share,
    Jerry

    • I thought of your posts on NDE’s when I listened to these videos Jerry. I think Tom Campbell has a perfectly sensible explanation about NDE’s and many other topics in his theory of everything. It’s a trip through the Larger Consciousness Field, leaving the material physical world (of illusions) behind and returning to reality. I have read that the early Egyptians didn’t even have a word for death. They called it” returning to reality.” Where’s your (“dead”) grandfather would be answered, “He returned to reality.” They obviously didn’t have as much fear as we do now about ‘passing over.’
